You thought that was funny? Here's something that I wrote a couple of years ago, that just came up on Facebook. Too bad the photo gallery seems to be missing from the webpage.
Franklin home bursts with holiday cheer
Every week, in the Sunday paper, they do a feature on an area home. They choose a house that stands out, for its decorating, remodeling, architecture, gardens, whatever. Well this weeks story reads like The Onion.
First, it's some of the most boring decorating I've ever seen in print. Their whole house is light grey, and they're not exactly going overboard. That's fine for decorating, but for a feature story? The photo of their bedroom shows an aqua colored pillow with the phrase "let it snow" as the entirety of Christmas decoration for the room.
But the interview is pure gold. Check this out...
"But when it was time to decorate for Christmas last year, they realized it was the perfect place for the decorations Amy had accumulated over the years."
Come on. Who says, "this house isn't quite perfect for our Christmas decorations"?
"I'm 100% in charge of the decorating," said Amy. "My mom did all the decorating, too, and my dad (Dave Carroll) helped her when she needed a hand. He also did the decorations outside. Bradley does the same."
What a great way to handle decorating! I wish I'd thought of that.
Q. Tell me about your collection of Santas.
"I have 21, and they're mostly in the kitchen. They include a Pez dispenser Santa. He's funny. My favorite is a tiny Santa that was an ornament. He's about 1½ inches high. I thought he was too cute to be hiding on a tree."
I think Cindy and I should be featured next year. While she only has fifteen Santas, one is funny, and one is only 1-1/2 inch tall. I think we're definitely in the running. But I might have to put lights on some bushes.
Q. Have you started any Christmas traditions of your own?
"I started keeping all the Christmas cards we get. I hook them together and set them out on the coffee table."
Really?!! That is so cool? Did you get that from Pinterest? Umm... you should really see Pinterest.
