Cyn just told me that the Violent Femmes are playing Summerfest on June 29th. I have mixed feelings about that. They are the greatest band ever. I've seen them over a dozen times. I've only missed them in Milwaukee twice since 1988.
The problem is that it is Summerfest. The last time I saw them there it was just fucking packed. I had serious enjoyment problems. To get a decent place, you have to show up very early. At the very latest, at the end of the band before the one before the one you want to see. So we sat there for three hours trying to hold some space for our friends, while people started packing in. We were jammed on these benches, and I mean JAMMED. I had to stand completely sideways on this bench because there were so many people. Try dancing like that. It's not fun. Finally, for one song, I had to just dance, and not care who I bumped or knocked to the ground. I didn't feel good about that, but I had to do it. I finally had to go on the ground between the benches, and pretend I didn't care about not being able to see the band. Of course then I was eye-to-crotch (or ass) with everyone. Fortunately it was dark. I was in pain afterward, due to stiffness from trying to balance and not lean on people. And my feet hurt from trying to balance (and dance) on the wobbly bench.

On the passing of time...
Date: 2001-05-15 08:41 am (UTC)From:So... I hope you are still growing up... right ?
Ok I take this solemn occasion to give you a laugh at my expense.
Once when I had a beard it partly caught fire on my birthday candles !
No one got hurt, but I immediately shaved it all... and for the rest of the weekend they all pretented not to recognise me.
Be afraid man, beard, age and fire, be very afraid...
B-)
Bye.

Date: 2001-05-15 10:56 am (UTC)From:thanks! I've never caught any part of my body on fire (accidentally...).
If I shaved my beard and cut my hair, they wouldn't have to pretend not to recognize me.
I'm still growing, but I'm not sure if it is growing up, exactly.
see ya!
