Our trip to New York City, day one, in pictures.

In which we see New York from a tall building, Central Park, walking the streets, St. Patrick's Cathedral, great skyscraper architecture, and Japanese restaurant.

This fat little guy was just sitting there, staring into space. We saw him on the way to The Metropolitan Art Museum.
We spent a couple three hours at The Met. That's a pretty nice art museum, though I was disappointed with their meager selection of photography. They did have a temporary show, dealing with nude photography. Quite a historical overview, and they had pieces by Weston, Callahan and Mapplethorpe, among others.
Then we got hot dogs and ice cream bars from street vendors, and strolled through Central Park.

We went south out of the park, to Rockefeller Center, where we went to the Top of the Rock. 69th floor, I think.
5
Note the arm coming through the glass, with a camera.
6
7
That's One World Trade Center, in the distance.
It wasn't a particularly clear day, but it wasn't particularly crowded, either.

10
Then we went on south and east.

Not sure what building this is, but it's gorgeous.

13
Since we wandered by St. Patrick's we went in.
14
Pretty impressive.
15
I wish I'd done this one in 3d, so you could make it out better. Everything kinda blends together.

The GE Building

The Chrysler Building, of course.

I hadn't realized the building was brick. Brick outer walls, and a steel superstructure. Some call it the tallest brick building in the world.
By that time our feet were killing us, so we found the subway, and went back to the hotel.
20
Then we wandered out, looking for a place for dinner. We found this little hole-in-the-wall Japanese place. Kindof adventurous for us, but it was good. We may have been the only ones in the room not eating with chopsticks.
