So first, I discovered a fairly large spider had left an egg sac in the door frame of our front door (between the inner and outer doors), and we never noticed it up in the corner. I discovered it because the babies had hatched, and were swarming when I went outside. Fortunately I didn't get a facefull of them, just a few hanging off of me like gnats. But there were hundreds and hundreds. And now they're outside, so the house will likely be covered in big orb weavers this fall.

Then, when I was changing, there was something dark on the top of my knee. At half a glance I thought it was a piece of fuzz from my sweater, so I brushed at it, but it didn't move. I turned out to be a tick. This was upsetting, not because there was a tick on me, but because there was a tick at all. This is the first time I've seen one in this area in my entire life. So now I have to be super careful all the time, and do tick checks every night because I spend all summer crouched on the lawn weeding or whatever, in the garden. I don't even know how I got it. I was hardly outside today. The grass is high, so I guess I brushed it with the cuffs of my jeans and it crawled up and anchored itself on my knee. I pulled it off and it took some skin with it.

Dammit.
