I met Cyn’s sister Devonne and her husband Stan. We met them at this old man bar, where they hang out when they’re in town. (They drive a truck.) Devonne told us about one of the regulars at this bar. George.

George was an angry old man. Always grumbling and grousing and muttering to himself. He put his wife in a nursing home because she suffered some malady and couldn’t talk. George had a problem with paying his water bill. It seems the sewer backed up into his basement, and the Sewerage department wouldn’t clean it up. So he didn’t pay his bill. Then they turned off his water and electricity. So he couldn’t bathe. And he spent all day at the bar. And he stank.

One of the bartenders handed Stan some money and told him to play some loud music on the jukebox to make George leave. Stan chose Hendrix’s "Star Spangled Banner." It worked. George picked up his newspaper and left. Grumbling the whole time.

The next day, George was back. Devonne decided to play the Violent Femmes. Their whole first album. George made it to Add It Up (the fourth song) before he cracked. Again, he picked up his paper and left. A couple of days later George hadn’t come back. One of the bartenders said, "he’s dead. I know it." A couple of days later, they found out he really was dead. He appeared to have dropped dead shortly after returning from the bar that day.

Devonne killed George with the Violent Femmes!

Cindy read in Cosmopolitan that if you want to please your man, you should run your hands under hot water.

So when I'm in the mood, I tell her to do the dishes.

pretty much sucked. Okay, it didn't completely suck. I had Cyn to keep me sane. Of course I dragged her into the mess I made of things.

My car didn't start on Friday, because it was so cold. so she had to come and pick me up. Then I forgot Doug's phone number so I couldn't call and tell him where we were meeting for dinner. She had to drive me back home to call him, then back into the city. It's 35 minutes between her house and mine.

I tried fixing my car. All I had to do was take out the spark plugs, dry them off and replace them - it was flooded. No dice. I got one done, then I stripped the spark plug wire on the next. And hurt my hand (aggravated the carpal tunnel) in the process. So I'll have to have the car towed, and the $40, six month old spark plug wires replaced.

And my life in general is getting out of hand. Cindy helped me take care of some things, for which I am grateful. She provided moral support for doing things like paying bills and trying to get my papers organized.

We went to see American Standard, on Saturday night. If they ever come to your neck of the woods, go see them! Funky, heavy style blues. A guitarist in an SRV/Hendrix vein. Strong voice. I guess they're Chicago based.
