tired of all the water
Jul. 13th, 2015 07:48 pmI cleaned the garage on Sunday. It even smells clean, since I washed the floor. I got all the crusted winter road salt out. So that was good water. From there, it goes downhill.
Thursday night I discovered the sewage holding tank was almost full. I then forgot this fact until saturday noon, when it was too late to get somebody here to empty it. We spent the rest of the weekend conserving water. No laundry or dishwashing, minimal showers. I'm not sure if the tank was overflowing by this morning, but I doubt it.
On Thursday, Cyn surprised me with 30 plastic flamingos in the front yard. For a donation to a friend's Girl Scout troop, they flocked our yard with them. So that was fun. The girls came to remove the flamingos while I was gone at gaming. I thought it would be fun to put my own two flamingos out, like the two that stayed while the rest of them flocked off. So when I got home from gaming around 11:00, I went to the basement to get them and discovered water all over the place.
My outside spigot was leaking last summer, so I replaced the washers. This spring it was leaking again. Not only would water come through while it was turned off, while it was on, water would shoot out the top, by the handle. I put off having that fixed. Meanwhile, I had to shut off the supply to that faucet in the basement. The constant use of that shutoff valve caused the washers to wear, at that valve started leaking. It would drip pretty badly while it was on, but not while it was off. Until last night.
I'd had a pan under it, but it overflowed, and water ran down the shelves and got into the boxes on the middle shelf. Boxes of LP's. NNNOOOOO! Probably about half the record sleeves in the two boxes had slight damage. A few had serious damage, including some of Cyn's beloved George Harrison records. Also, we lost one of the boxes they were in. This is annoying, as perfectly-sized boxes for LPs are hard to come by.
So I spent over 45 minutes moving everything off the shelves and soaking up the water. And going through all the records and spreading them out to dry. And then I spent some time on the computer to wind down before going to bed a little before 1:00.
So this morning I called a place, and they sent someone to fix it all, in the afternoon. I had to take the afternoon off work, but it's finally done. Something I should have done two or three months ago. A couple of weeks ago I called someone. He took a few days to call me back, and told me he'd come over to take a look in a couple of days, and never did. A few minutes after I told this to Cyn, that guy called back. Uh, no. I had someone else here this afternoon to take care of it, thanks.
We had a storm last night. It brought a few smallish branches down. It also brought hot, muggy weather. It was very damp outside. It stayed relatively cool in the house, but by evening, the temperature was still creeping upward, so I turned on the air conditioning.
